The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has enforced a new rule requiring the registration of all pet dogs and cats by September 30, with a penalty of up to Rs 5,000 for non-compliance. Residents have a two-month grace period to register their pets, aiming to make Jaipur rabies-free and establish a comprehensive database of pet animals in the city.
Commissioner Om Kasera highlighted that the initiative intends to enhance pet welfare, prevent diseases like rabies, and promote responsible pet ownership through maintaining vaccination and health records. Additionally, the Corporation will host the city’s largest Pet Carnival on August 2, offering pet registration, anti-rabies vaccinations, health check-ups, and adoption services.
Under the new regulations, every pet must receive its first anti-rabies vaccination at three months old, followed by annual vaccinations, with vaccination status being a crucial part of the registration records. The Corporation emphasized that the goal is to improve public health and animal welfare, urging citizens to comply with the registration requirements within the specified deadline.
The revised rules also mandate registration with the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) for pet shops, breeders, and kennel operators, with a registration fee of Rs 1,000 plus GST and an annual renewal fee of Rs 500 plus GST. Failure to register pets by the deadline will result in fines, with additional penalties for subsequent violations. The Corporation aims to enhance disease control, pet welfare, and systematic management of companion animals in Jaipur.
