External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed confidence in the ongoing BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi contributing to a more stable and inclusive global order. He welcomed foreign dignitaries to the meeting, highlighting the complexities faced by the world and the impact on emerging markets and developing nations.
Jaishankar emphasized the necessity for a robust response to challenges in energy, food, fertilizers, and health security. He stressed the importance of secure maritime flows for global economic well-being and the need for reliable supply chains and diverse markets for economic resilience. Additionally, he called for utilizing technology for good governance and inclusive growth, addressing issues of trust, transparency, and equitable access.
The minister also emphasized the significance of dialogue, diplomacy, and enhanced cooperation in addressing international peace and security challenges, including combating terrorism. He advocated for a reformed multilateral system, including reforms in the United Nations Security Council’s permanent and non-permanent categories. India’s BRICS Chairship aims at fostering resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability towards achieving a more stable and inclusive international order.
The two-day BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, chaired by EAM Jaishankar, commenced in New Delhi under India’s leadership. This meeting, a key event under India’s BRICS chairship, is expected to shape the agenda for the upcoming BRICS Leaders’ Summit later this year. Guided by the theme of ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,’ India’s BRICS chairship in 2026 reflects a people-centric approach outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
