Jamaal Lascelles, the 32-year-old centre back, has bid farewell to his 11-year tenure at Newcastle United by signing with Leicester City. Joining Leicester until the end of the 2025/26 season, Lascelles brings a wealth of Premier League experience, having captained Newcastle United over several seasons.
Lascelles first arrived at Newcastle from Nottingham Forest in 2014, later returning to Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2014/15 season. His impactful return to Newcastle saw him gradually earn a spot in the first team during the latter part of the 2015/16 season.
Under then-manager Rafa Benítez, Lascelles was appointed Newcastle captain in 2015, leading the team to the 2016/17 Championship title and a return to the Premier League. He played a pivotal role in Newcastle’s journey, including captaining the team in a memorable 4-1 Champions League win against Paris Saint-Germain in October 2023.
Despite facing injuries last season, Lascelles remained a significant figure within the squad’s leadership group. Newcastle bid a heartfelt farewell to their former captain, expressing gratitude for his remarkable contributions and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
Excited about his move to Leicester, Lascelles expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the club’s excellent setup, strong support, and impressive facilities. Eager to contribute to Leicester’s success, he looks forward to joining the team and making a positive impact on their league position.
