Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah criticized Golgotias University for showcasing a Chinese-made robotic dog at an Artificial Intelligence summit in New Delhi and falsely claiming it as the university’s innovation. Abdullah expressed disappointment in a social media post, highlighting the act as an example of plagiarism in education.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also condemned the summit, criticizing the event for promoting Chinese products instead of utilizing India’s talent and resources.
Following the controversy, Golgotias University was directed to withdraw from the summit after it was revealed that the robotic dog displayed was a commercially available product from China, not an original creation by the university. The university’s professor clarified that the robot was presented as an exhibit, not as their own invention.
Internet users quickly identified the robotic dog as the Unitree Go2, a product from China’s Unitree Robotics, commonly used in research and education. In response to the backlash, Golgotias University issued a statement expressing regret over the incident and emphasized the importance of fostering a positive environment for students to innovate and learn using global technologies.
