Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, expressed support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts in resolving the US-Israel conflict with Iran. Abdullah emphasized that if Pakistan can facilitate peace talks between the US, Israel, and Iran, there should be no objections from anyone. The Kashmir Valley, home to a significant Shia Muslim population, has seen peaceful protests following the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israel strikes.
Authorities in Kashmir had to impose restrictions during the protests to prevent any disturbances by anti-social elements. Omar Abdullah, who swiftly traveled from Jammu to Srinagar, engaged with various community leaders to urge dignified mourning. The response to Abdullah’s appeal for peace and solidarity was positive across different sections of society, contributing to the restoration of normalcy in the region.
The people of Kashmir and the Kargil district in Ladakh Union Territory have been extending donations to support those affected in Iran amid the ongoing hostilities. Despite India’s calls for de-escalation, both Iran and Israel have witnessed intense attacks over the past 27 days, prompting concerns about the escalating situation.
