The Jammu and Kashmir Government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, focused on AYUSH infrastructure, outreach, and wellness tourism. At a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the J&K AYUSH Society approved the State Annual Action Plan 2026-27 under the National AYUSH Mission for submission to the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The meeting was attended by senior officials from various departments including Finance, Planning, Health, and Medical Education.
Emphasizing the significance of AYUSH systems in preventive and holistic healthcare, the Chief Secretary highlighted the need for a robust wellness policy in partnership with private stakeholders. He noted the potential of wellness tourism for J&K, citing examples from states like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. The directive was to position J&K as a key wellness and healthcare destination, similar to other renowned states.
The Chief Secretary instructed the department to ensure the availability of AYUSH services in every Medical College and District Hospital across the Union Territory. Various programs like the National Programme for Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis and other Musculoskeletal Disorders were emphasized for wider outreach and coverage to benefit more people. Monitoring mechanisms were also stressed for quality service delivery.
Further directives included establishing herbal gardens in government institutions and involving local Self-Help Groups in processing medicinal herbs. The focus was on generating livelihood opportunities and promoting indigenous medicinal products. The need for faculty recruitment through designated agencies to enhance the functioning of AYUSH colleges and educational institutions was also highlighted for improved academic standards.
