The Jammu and Kashmir government organized a workshop focusing on industrial corridors and plug-and-play infrastructure at the Convention Centre in Jammu. This workshop was part of a consultation process initiated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It aimed to prepare for the National Departmental Summit scheduled for July 2026.
The consultation process is part of a broader Center-State framework following the 5th National Conference of Chief Secretaries. The objective is to boost India’s manufacturing competitiveness through coordinated efforts in industrial infrastructure development, logistics integration, investment facilitation, and policy reforms necessary for global manufacturing integration.
The workshop began with a welcome address by Dr. Arun Kumar Manhas, Director of Industries and Commerce, Jammu. Commissioner Secretary Vikramjit Singh highlighted the importance of leveraging India’s evolving geopolitical scenario. He stressed the need for Jammu and Kashmir to showcase its industrial strengths, identify infrastructure gaps, and address region-specific challenges on a national platform.
Facilitated by the Invest India Team, the workshop featured thematic sessions and an open-house discussion focusing on key pillars identified by DPIIT. These pillars include land and industrial infrastructure assets, connectivity, skills and innovation ecosystem, and policy and regulations. Stakeholders shared insights, discussed sector-specific challenges, and proposed measures to enhance industrial development in the region.
The event saw participation from various districts, Administrative Secretaries of different Departments, and representatives from industry bodies. The insights and recommendations from these consultations will be consolidated and submitted to DPIIT to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial priorities and growth aspirations are well-represented in policy discussions at the National Summit.
