The Jammu and Kashmir government has instructed the police to file an FIR against Sunit Bhat, a Kashmiri migrant Pandit leader, for a Facebook comment targeting Relief Commissioner Arvind Karwani. The administration alleges that Bhat made accusations of illegal allotment and bribery against the Relief Commissioner in a social media post. This action was taken following a complaint that Bhat’s comments could incite violence and disrupt public order.
Officials from the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner’s office in Jammu have urged the police to take action against Bhat for his derogatory remarks on social media. The communication to the police highlighted that Bhat’s comments have damaged the reputation of the relief organization and the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner. Bhat’s alleged instigation against the government’s Special Relief Ration Scheme was also mentioned in the complaint.
The letter to the police emphasized the need for immediate action against Bhat for his social media activities that could potentially lead to violence and public disorder. It stated that the allotment of shops at the Jagti migrant camp was conducted transparently based on recommendations from a committee of senior government officials. The administration assured its willingness to cooperate with any government agency conducting an inquiry into the allotment process.
Displaced Kashmiri Pandits protested against the integration of their relief rations into the National Food Security Act, labeling it as a detrimental move. They expressed concerns that this integration could impact their distinct identity as displaced persons and affect their rehabilitation rights. The protesters clashed with the police during their march towards the Relief Commissioner’s office in Jammu.
Kashmiri Migrant Pandits in Jammu currently receive financial relief and rations at subsidized rates through the Relief Commissioner’s office. The Relief Commissioner maintains detailed records of their current residence, family size, and eligibility for relief benefits.
