Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council’s Nuzhat Gull expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the region’s inaugural National Centre of Excellence (NCOE). The new center aims to bolster the recent surge in sporting achievements at national and international levels in Jammu and Kashmir. It envisions transforming the region into a prominent sporting Union Territory, emphasizing structured grassroots programs, professional coaching, scientific training methods, and international exposure.

Since assuming the role of secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council in 2021, Nuzhat has spearheaded efforts to enhance sports infrastructure, promote grassroots participation, and position the Union Territory as a national sports hub. Her tenure has focused on expanding training programs to districts and rural areas, ensuring inclusive coaching and competitive opportunities for young athletes beyond elite levels.

Under Nuzhat’s leadership, Jammu and Kashmir has become a reputable host for major sporting events, including the successful Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg. The region has also hosted national football camps and various national and international championships across diverse disciplines. The strengthened support system provided by the Sports Council has led to increased success for Jammu and Kashmir athletes in various sports, with consistent medal wins at national and international competitions.
