World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his winning streak by defeating Sebastian Ofner 6-3, 6-4 in the Italian Open’s second round. Sinner, aiming for a Career Golden Masters, has already won five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles. Novak Djokovic is the only other player to achieve this milestone since 1990.
Supported by a home crowd, Sinner showcased his baseline consistency and precise ball-striking against Ofner. Making just five unforced errors in the first set, Sinner broke serve with a delicate drop shot in the second set to secure victory.
After the match, Sinner expressed his joy at being back and reflected on the significance of the tournament for him as an Italian. The win extended his ATP Masters 1000 winning streak to 29 matches, tying him with Roger Federer for the third-longest streak in the series.
Sinner, who reached the final in Rome last year, is now focused on becoming the first Italian man to win the tournament since 1976. His next challenge is against Alexei Popyrin in the third round, who secured his spot by defeating Jakub Mensik.
Ofner and Sinner had previously met at the Challenger level in Italy in 2019, where Sinner emerged victorious with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in Ortisei.
