Japan has become the leading contributor to India’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) ecosystem in the Asia Pacific region, boasting over 100 established centers, as per a report. These centers are evolving into key hubs for engineering, digital transformation, and product innovation, covering areas like AI, embedded systems, cloud, advanced analytics, and digital manufacturing. Japanese enterprises are rapidly expanding their GCC presence in India to drive innovation-led growth, states the Deloitte India report titled “India’s strategic GCC play for Japanese enterprises.”
Rohan Lobo, Partner and GCC Industry Leader at Deloitte India, highlighted that as Japanese companies enhance their global capability networks, India is emerging as a pivotal hub offering scale, engineering talent, and digital expertise. The GCC sector in India is projected to unlock an economic impact of $470–600 billion by FY30, contributing up to 2.8 percent to GDP and generating numerous high-skilled jobs, positioning India at the core of global capability networks.
The growth of GCCs is expanding to cities like Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Kochi, and Indore, driven by factors such as cost competitiveness, specialized talent pools, and supportive state policies. Keerthi Kumar, Partner at Deloitte India, noted that Japanese GCCs in India are notably focused on engineering-related sectors, with technology, industrials, and automotive and healthcare industries forming a significant part of their presence.
The India–Japan bilateral momentum, which includes a substantial investment commitment and digital partnership initiatives, is further propelling the expansion of GCCs. The upcoming growth phase will be steered by talent strategies, enhanced R&D and innovation efforts, robust ecosystem partnerships, and positioning India as a strategic market and long-term growth ally, according to the report.
