The President of the Japan-India Friendship Promotion Group of Wakayama Prefectural Assembly met with India’s Ambassador to Japan, Nagma Mallick, at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. They discussed enhancing people-to-people connections between Wakayama and India through tourism and cultural exchanges. The meeting highlighted the longstanding partnership between Japan and India, particularly focusing on Maharashtra and Wakayama.
The discussions centered on strengthening ties between Wakayama and India through tourism and cultural exchanges. In a previous visit to India, Nijima Takeshi, accompanied by Governor Miyazaki, engaged with officials like the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Maharashtra and Wakayama have nurtured a strong relationship, with a sister-state partnership dating back to 2013. The dialogue emphasized the importance of this bond in fostering Indo-Japanese friendship.
The meeting also included Akizuki Fuminari, Vice Speaker of the Wakayama Prefectural Assembly, and other officials. The Consulate General of India Osaka-Kobe reported a meeting between Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna and Wakayama Prefectural Assembly members in July 2025. They explored avenues to enhance cultural and people-to-people connections, further solidifying the bond between the regions.
