Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi recently attended a reception at the residence of India’s Ambassador to Japan, Nagma Mallick. During the event, both sides committed to enhancing defense ties between Japan and India.
Koizumi is set to visit India in August for discussions with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This visit marks Koizumi’s first trip to India since taking office in October last year. The ministers are expected to focus on cooperation in defense equipment, including the potential export of Japan’s Unicorn communication antenna system to India.
The upcoming talks between Koizumi and Singh are anticipated to cover the expansion of joint military exercises between Japan’s Self-Defense Forces and the Indian military. Additionally, the leaders will likely address regional matters in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly concerning China’s activities.
India and Japan recently held their 8th Defence Policy Dialogue in Tokyo, emphasizing the deepening of cooperation in various areas such as defense industrial collaboration, cyber security, and technological innovation. Both nations expressed satisfaction with their increasing alignment on regional and global security issues, affirming their commitment to a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.
The dialogue encompassed a wide range of bilateral defense engagements, including military exchanges, maritime cooperation, capacity building, and technology collaboration. The two countries highlighted the importance of ongoing high-level exchanges and dialogue mechanisms to sustain the growth of defense cooperation.
