Several Japanese newspapers and media outlets have highlighted the success of the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi, emphasizing the strengthening of bilateral relations in strategic and economic areas. The summit, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
Prime Minister Takaichi aimed to bolster ties with India, a crucial Indo-Pacific partner, during the summit in New Delhi. The meeting addressed concerns regarding supply chain issues, energy security, and China’s growing regional influence. Japan’s interest in India has increased due to its large market, expanding manufacturing base, and skilled tech workforce.
Japan views India as a significant ally in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region amidst China’s escalating military and economic presence. The summit occurred amid strained Sino-Japanese relations, with China imposing stricter controls on exports to Japan since January. Both leaders also agreed to enhance economic security cooperation, focusing on ensuring stable energy and mineral supplies.
During the talks, Takaichi and Modi emphasized cooperation on maritime security and reached an agreement on Japan’s export of Unicorn communication antennas to India. The leaders expressed their commitment to deepening security cooperation based on the revised “Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation between Japan and India.”
