Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for congratulating her on her election victory. Takaichi looks forward to collaborating with Modi to enhance the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between Japan and India, as well as to promote a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) initiative.
In response to Modi’s congratulatory message, Takaichi emphasized the importance of their cooperation in further elevating the friendship between the two countries. Modi had conveyed his confidence in deepening the India-Japan relationship under Takaichi’s leadership.
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party in Japan secured a significant victory in the House of Representatives election, obtaining a two-thirds majority. Takaichi’s popularity played a crucial role in this achievement, positioning her to continue serving as Japan’s Prime Minister.
During a bilateral meeting in November, Modi and Takaichi discussed enhancing collaboration in various sectors such as innovation, defense, and talent mobility. Modi underscored the significance of a strong India-Japan partnership for global well-being, highlighting the productive nature of their discussions.
Takaichi assumed office as Japan’s Prime Minister in October last year after winning a runoff election in Parliament, becoming the first woman to hold this position.
