Jasprit Bumrah marked a strong comeback in ODI cricket, emerging as India’s top bowler on English soil by dismissing England’s Harry Brook during the first ODI at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After a gap of 968 days from ODIs, Bumrah claimed his 150th wicket, surpassing Ravindra Jadeja’s 30 wickets in England to take the lead with 31. This achievement places him ahead of other Indian ODI wicket-takers in England like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Madan Lal, and Mohammed Shami.
Brook’s dismissal also propelled Bumrah to become the third Indian to reach 150 ODI wickets in the fewest balls. Achieving this feat in 4,605 deliveries, he follows Mohammed Shami (4,070 balls) and Kuldeep Yadav (4,513), overtaking Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan. This milestone also secured Bumrah a place in an elite global group alongside Shakib Al Hasan and Tim Southee, being one of the few cricketers with 200 Test wickets, 150 ODI wickets, and 100 T20I wickets.
Known for his prowess in overseas conditions, Bumrah’s performance in England stands out with 31 wickets in 17 ODIs at an impressive average of 21.41 and an economy rate of 4.44. His standout moment in England was during the 2022 series when he delivered a remarkable 6/19. Notably, in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, Bumrah shone with 18 wickets as India advanced to the semi-finals.
In the same match, all-rounder Axar Patel showcased his career-best performance of 4-62, restricting England to 258 all out in 47.5 overs at the Edgbaston Stadium. Despite a middle-order collapse, England managed a competitive total thanks to a resilient 121-run partnership between Joe Root and Liam Dawson in the opening ODI against India.
