Political activities in Bihar have heightened ahead of the upcoming Legislative Assembly session and the Bankipur Assembly by-election. The Janata Dal-United (JD-U) has decided to temporarily halt its Janata Darbar program at the party’s state office. State JD-U President Umesh Singh Kushwaha announced the suspension from July 18 to August 2, with the program set to resume on August 3. This move was made to allow full attention to the Bihar Legislative Assembly session starting on July 20 and the Bankipur Assembly by-election on July 30.
The Janata Darbar, a significant public outreach initiative of the JD-U, where citizens present grievances directly to party Ministers, will be on hold for nearly two weeks. The program, which usually involves Ministers hearing public complaints on specific days at the JD-U state office, will be paused due to legislative duties and election activities. Those seeking to engage with Ministers through the Janata Darbar will need to wait until August 3 for the program to recommence.
The Bankipur Assembly by-election, slated for July 30, has become a closely watched political contest in Bihar. The election was triggered by BJP President Nitin Nabin vacating the seat after his Rajya Sabha election. With 25 candidates reportedly in the fray, the BJP is striving to maintain its stronghold in Bankipur. The election has gained significance with the entry of Prashant Kishor from the Jan Suraaj Party and Rekha Kumari Gupta from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
