JD(S) MLA Karemma G. Nayak from Devadurga constituency expressed distress in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, revealing that she was being followed and threatened by sand mafia goons. She highlighted the deteriorating law-and-order situation in her area, citing instances of illegal activities like the theft of a dialysis machine from a hospital.

The MLA disclosed that sand mafia activities were rampant along the Krishna river, leading to an environment of fear with illegal sand transportation happening openly. She criticized the authorities for their lack of response and the inadequacy of the measures taken to address the issue, despite claims of forming a special team.

Karemma G. Nayak further pointed out irregularities in the tender process for sand mining, indicating possible collusion among officials. She emphasized the need for immediate intervention to curb the illegal activities that were causing harm to the community and damaging infrastructure.

JD(S) floor leader C.B. Suresh Babu echoed concerns about the safety of elected representatives and citizens, emphasizing the need to tackle the uncontrolled activities of the sand mafia. In response, Home Minister G. Parameshwara assured MLA Karemma of her safety and pledged to take necessary actions to address the situation.
