The Jharkhand High Court criticized the Bokaro police for their lackadaisical handling of a missing minor girl case from 2020. The court warned that if the situation does not improve, the investigation might be transferred to the CBI. Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Sanjay Prasad expressed displeasure over the slow progress in cases involving missing girls and women by the Bokaro police.
The court also raised concerns about the performance of past and present Bokaro Superintendents of Police and the concerned DSP. It noted that despite suspicions of abduction, no thorough investigation had been conducted in that direction. The court found the current probe unsatisfactory and instructed the CID to provide a progress report within three weeks.
If the CID investigation does not show improvement, the court may consider involving both state investigating agencies and the CBI in the case. The police had failed to locate the missing girl even after filing an FIR in 2020. The court criticized the police for transferring the case to the CID in April 2026 after years of no breakthrough, suggesting an attempt to conceal their shortcomings.
The next hearing is set for June 8, where a petition regarding the disappearance of an 18-year-old girl from Bokaro will also be addressed. The petitioner’s counsel, Vincent Rohit Markey, highlighted the lack of progress in finding the missing minor over the past five years. Despite initially detaining four suspects in connection with the case, they were later released. The girl’s mother sought the High Court’s intervention due to the lack of progress, prompting the court to take a firm stance.
