Ranchi, Aug 8 (IANS) Jharkhand BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu on Saturday lashed out at the Congress and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of “hypocrisy” and “doing injustice” to the students.

Students have been protesting in the state since July 25 over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations.

Addressing reporters at the protest site, Aditya Sahu said: “Rahul Gandhi was provoking students during the agitation in Delhi…In Jharkhand, the government is running with the support of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi speaks to the students over the phone. If Rahul Gandhi has the courage, he should speak to the government here and demand a CBI investigation and also clearly state that if the government does not do so, Congress would take back its support and instead extend support to the students’ agitation.”

Referring to the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, he stated: “This hypocrisy of the Congress will not be tolerated in the country…If they are concerned even a little, then they should come to this stage and make an announcement, but the Congress leaders are scared to do the same. They say something in Delhi but remain silent in Jharkhand. Why are they not saying here?”

Emphasising that the students have been sitting on hunger strike day and night, without food or water, despite being drenched in rain, he urged the JMM-led state government to understand that youth is the biggest power and “it is its responsibility to provide jobs to them, not snatch away their opportunities”.

“In all Congress-ruled and Congress-supported states, the party has done injustice to students. Therefore, the state government here is also doing injustice to the students. It refuses permission for protest, to set up a stage for the agitation, leading to harassment of students,” the Jharkhand BJP chief alleged.

Urging the state government to listen to the demands of students asking for a CBI probe into the alleged exam irregularities, Sahu remarked: “The government is scared because it has messed with the future of students.”

Asserting that people of the state are willing to support the agitating students, he added: “The Vidhan Sabha gherao which has been planned for August 10 will be one of a kind. Students from across the state will join that protest…I am hopeful that the students will be successful in awakening the state government from its deep slumber.”
