Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, accused a conspiracy to destabilize his ruling National Conference party. He claimed that attempts were made to bribe MLAs with Rs 20-30 crore each and the promise of statehood to topple his government. Addressing party workers at his grandmother’s memorial, he vowed to prevent any backdoor entry by the BJP.
Omar Abdullah disclosed that efforts were underway to induce defections within the NC. He cited an instance where an MLA was offered money, a ministerial position, and statehood to switch sides. The CM emphasized that despite such pressures, the party would not yield to political tactics.
The CM expressed disappointment over the delay in restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood despite the completion of the delimitation process and elections. He questioned the government’s commitment to its promises and announced a peaceful protest in New Delhi on July 20. Omar Abdullah reiterated the party’s demand for statehood restoration while cautioning against underestimating J&K’s resolve.
Omar Abdullah urged the Centre to clarify if the statehood restoration was linked to a change in J&K’s political landscape. He criticized the central government for not fulfilling its commitments post-delimitation and elections. The CM affirmed the NC’s dedication to pursuing statehood through democratic means and vowed to uphold party unity against divisive tactics.
