Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reached out to Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu to address the challenges faced by Hajj pilgrims from the region regarding their luggage. Due to technical problems at Srinagar Airport, the pilgrims’ baggage could not be flown back, leading to arrangements for transportation by road from Ahmedabad. The delay in baggage delivery has caused distress to the returning pilgrims and impacted their religious customs and traditions significantly.
Omar Abdullah highlighted in his letter the concerns of the elderly pilgrims who have completed the sacred journey and emphasized the importance of timely and secure baggage transportation. He urged the minister to ensure that the luggage of Hajj pilgrims is safely transported back to Jammu and Kashmir, ideally alongside the pilgrims on their return flights. The delay has not only caused practical inconveniences but has also disrupted the customary sharing of religious items like Zamzam water and dates with loved ones and neighbors.
The Chief Minister stressed the significance of preserving the sanctity of religious and sentimental items associated with the Hajj pilgrimage. He emphasized the need for immediate action to alleviate the hardships faced by the pilgrims and their families. Omar Abdullah concluded his message by expressing hope for a prompt and positive resolution to the matter, seeking the minister’s intervention to rectify the situation swiftly.
