Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has removed a government employee from service due to suspected ties to terrorism. Mohammad Shafi, an inspector at the Power Development Department, was dismissed over alleged connections with terrorists. This action is part of the administration’s efforts to address such concerns.
Shafi, a 51-year-old resident of Arwani village in Bijbehara, had his services terminated by the L-G administration. He is reported to have been involved in three FIRs filed between 2017 and 2018. Notably, he is among the nine government employees dismissed this year for similar reasons.
Since 2019, a total of 91 government employees in Jammu and Kashmir have been let go over alleged terror links. The dismissals are carried out under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, allowing the administration to act swiftly in matters of state security. The recent termination of a Power Development Department inspector is part of this ongoing effort.
In previous instances, employees from various sectors, including education and health, were dismissed for alleged affiliations with banned groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. The decision to remove such employees is based on detailed reports by security agencies outlining their suspected involvement in supporting insurgents. The administration’s policy since 2019 aims to identify and eliminate individuals within the government linked to activities deemed harmful to national security.
