Srinagar, Aug 1 (IANS) J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday handed over appointment letters to the survivors of martyred police officers.

The L-G handed an appointment letter to Absar Ashiq Qureshi, son of J&K Police Martyr Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, at Lok Bhavan. The family members of the martyr were present.

The Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to the braveheart who made the ultimate sacrifice during the July 22, 2026 terror attack in Anantnag, assuring the family of all possible support.

Earlier last week, the L-G had visited the martyr’s family in Lalpora, Beerwah, Budgam district.

On compassionate grounds, the L-G also handed an appointment letter to Inshah Nazir, wife of J&K Police Martyr Inspector Masroor Ali Wani.

He honoured the supreme sacrifice of Inspector Wani and assured his family of every possible support from the administration.

J&K Police has been at the forefront of fighting terrorism in the region. Since the onset of militancy in 1989–1990, 1,614 personnel have been martyred, including regular officers, constables and Special Police Officers (SPOs). Of these, 515 were SPOs.

Casualties span various ranks, from senior commanders (including a DIG and SPs) to inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables and constables.

J&K Police regularly acknowledges official figures regarding the fallen during commemorative events. The force pays tributes to its martyred colleagues and attends to the welfare of their families.

In addition to ex gratia relief, one-time cash compensation and compassionate appointments, J&K Police also supports the educational needs of martyrs’ children.
