On World Environment Day, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the importance of collective efforts to safeguard the environment. Sinha stressed the need to protect the environment for the well-being of future generations, emphasizing the conservation of Mother Earth and nature’s delicate balance. Abdullah reiterated the government’s commitment to environmental conservation and urged citizens to join in this mission.
World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, aims to raise awareness and promote action for environmental protection. Since its inception in 1973, this day has served as a platform to address critical environmental issues like marine pollution, global warming, and wildlife crime. The event garners support from various NGOs, businesses, and government bodies, serving as a key United Nations initiative for environmental advocacy.
With participation from over 143 countries worldwide, World Environment Day provides a global stage for advocating environmental causes. Each year, a specific theme is chosen to engage businesses, NGOs, communities, and public figures in promoting environmental sustainability and conservation efforts.
