Jammu and Kashmir Police announced the dismantling of an interstate Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror cell, leading to the apprehension of five terrorists, among them two Pakistani nationals. Coordinated raids were conducted at 19 locations in various states, resulting in the capture of Abdullah, also known as Abu Hureira, a long-sought LeT member. Incriminating materials associated with terrorist activities were seized during the operations. The crackdown has unveiled a well-established LeT network in India, offering support in logistics, finance, and other aid to terrorists.
The LeT, a prominent terror group in J&K, has been linked to numerous attacks in the region. Comprising Pakistani handlers, mercenaries, and locally recruited individuals influenced through religious indoctrination, drugs, and money, the outfit has orchestrated significant acts of violence. Notably, the LeT was responsible for the Pahalgam terror assault in April last year, resulting in the tragic deaths of 26 individuals, including tourists and a local resident. In response, India initiated ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Furthermore, LeT militants carried out an attack on civilian laborers at the Z-Morh tunnel in Gagangir area, claiming the lives of six non-local workers and a local doctor. Subsequently, a joint operation by the Indian Army and J&K Police, named ‘Operation Mahadev,’ neutralized the perpetrators of the Pahalgam and Gagangir incidents in July 2025. The terrorists were eliminated near the Mahadev Peak at the foothills of Dachigam National Park in Srinagar district.
