Joe Root, England’s former captain, played a crucial role in England’s victory over India in the second ODI by scoring an unbeaten 99 off 133 balls. Root’s innings guided England to a total of 234/6, leveling the series 1-1. Despite missing out on a century, Root emphasized that the win was more important than personal milestones.

Root expressed his satisfaction with the team’s victory, highlighting the significance of the upcoming decider match at Lord’s. He emphasized the excitement of potentially defeating the world’s number one team and the importance of playing to win. Root also noted the value of winning in a different style that may not align with the team’s usual aggressive approach.

India, initially looking strong with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer’s contributions, faltered as England’s pace attack led to a collapse. India lost their last seven wickets for just 55 runs, being bowled out for 233. Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson claimed three wickets each, while Saqib Mahmood picked up two. Despite India’s efforts during the chase, Root’s composed innings ensured England’s comfortable victory.
