The Army, Assam Rifles, and other agencies collaborated in conducting flood relief and disaster response exercises in Tripura, Mizoram, and neighboring Northeastern states to enhance inter-agency coordination and emergency preparedness before the monsoon season. A comprehensive flood relief and mock rescue drill was jointly organized by the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Agartala to demonstrate seamless coordination and readiness for disaster response. Civil administration representatives, local stakeholders, and community members participated in the event to learn about disaster preparedness and emergency response measures.
The exercise aimed to improve operational synergy, interoperability, and coordination between the Indian Army and NDRF during flood-related emergencies and natural disasters in Tripura and surrounding areas. It simulated a realistic flood scenario involving the rescue of stranded civilians, evacuation from inundated areas, medical assistance, setting up relief camps, and transporting essential supplies. Specialized rescue techniques, deployment of rescue boats, casualty evacuation procedures, communication protocols, and coordinated relief operations were showcased by teams from the Indian Army and NDRF during the exercise.
The joint drill provided an opportunity for both agencies to validate standard operating procedures, enhance response mechanisms, and strengthen joint operational capabilities. It reaffirmed the commitment of the Indian Army and NDRF to safeguarding lives and assets during disasters while emphasizing the importance of a unified approach, effective resource sharing, and swift decision-making in mitigating the impact of natural calamities. Such collaborative initiatives between the Indian Army and NDRF play a crucial role in boosting disaster preparedness and instilling confidence among local communities.
In Mizoram, the Assam Rifles conducted a five-day boatmanship training cadre for personnel from all Assam Rifles units deployed in the state, focusing on boat handling, river navigation, flood rescue operations, casualty evacuation, outboard motor handling, safety procedures, and tactical river crossing techniques. The training aimed to enhance personnel capability to operate effectively in flood-prone and inaccessible areas during monsoon contingencies. The cadre concluded with a practical exercise involving river crossing and rescue drills to validate the acquired skills, reflecting Assam Rifles’ commitment to maintaining operational readiness and disaster response capability in the Northeast region.
