A Joint Parliamentary Committee, chaired by BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, engaged with Odisha government officials and organizations regarding three significant bills. These bills include the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and the Union Territories Government (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Sarangi emphasized the importance of these legislative proposals in decriminalizing politics and upholding constitutional values.
The proposed laws, introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in August 2025, aim to bring about substantial changes in the political landscape. Sarangi highlighted the Bills’ objective of promoting transparency, integrity, and the rule of law within the democratic framework. She stressed the need to ensure that the political system is free from criminal elements and operates with constitutional morality at its core.
Following disturbances in the Lok Sabha, the Bills were referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee in November 2025. Since then, the committee has been actively consulting various stakeholders, including state governments and experts, to gather diverse perspectives. Sarangi mentioned that the feedback received during these consultations has been constructive and valuable in shaping the legislative process.
