India’s leading car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India, announced that it delivered a record 242,688 vehicles in May, marking its highest monthly sales ever and surpassing the previous peak set in April. Total sales saw a significant increase of nearly 34.8%, rising from 180,077 units in May 2025.
The company reported that domestic sales in May reached 193,535 units, showing a year-on-year growth of around 39% from 138,690 units in the same period last year. Additionally, exports amounted to 41,914 units, with 7,239 units shipped to other original equipment manufacturers.
In the passenger vehicle segment, which includes hatchbacks, sedans, vans, and utility vehicles, sales surged to 190,337 units, up from 135,962 units a year ago. Notably, utility vehicles like the Brezza, Fronx, Jimny, Grand Vitara, Victoris, Ertiga, XL6, and Invicto witnessed a 44.4% growth, reaching 79,267 units from 54,899 units in the previous year. Sales of models like Alto and S-Presso more than doubled to 16,275 units.
Exports for May 2026 rose to 41,914 units from 31,219 units in the same month last year, while the commercial vehicle model saw an increase to 3,198 units from 2,728 units. In April, the company recorded total sales of 239,646 units, marking a notable 33.29% increase over the same period last year.
Domestic sales also hit a record high of 191,122 units in April, surpassing the previous peak of 182,165 units set in December 2025. Maruti Suzuki India aims to increase the share of rail-based dispatches to 35% by FY2030-31 and plans to establish an in-plant railway siding at its upcoming Kharkhoda facility to reduce carbon emissions, fuel consumption, and road congestion.
The company recently announced a price hike of up to Rs 30,000 effective from June 2026 on models across its portfolio, citing sustained increases in raw material and operational costs impacting the automotive industry.
