At least 10 journalists from the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) were injured in an attack in Narsingdi district. The incident occurred as CRAB members were returning from their annual picnic at Dream Holiday Park in Madhabdi. The attack stemmed from an argument over extra charges demanded by attendants when the journalists were taking their parked cars out.
The violence resulted in ten journalists being injured, with one hospitalized in Narsingdi and nine transferred to Dhaka for further treatment. Two suspects were apprehended at the scene, both with previous complaints of overcharging at the same location. CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tamal described the assailants as forming a mob, causing fear among families present for the celebrations.
A human rights organization in Bangladesh has expressed concerns over escalating violence in the country, including attacks on journalists. In 2025, 539 journalists faced violence in 318 incidents, with three killed, 273 injured, and others harassed, threatened, or arrested. The deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh has seen a rise in attacks on journalists since the interim government took office in August 2024.
