Odisha Vigilance apprehended a junior assistant at the District Education Officer’s office in Bhadrak for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a private school representative. The accused, identified as Srikanta Kumar Dash, demanded the bribe to expedite the processing of a file for the school’s recognition certificate. Despite requests to proceed without payment, Dash insisted on the bribe before advancing the matter.
Vigilance officials, acting on a complaint, caught Dash red-handed while accepting the bribe at the DEO office. The entire amount was seized, and tests confirmed Dash’s contact with the tainted money. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at Dash’s residence and office to probe his financial assets. The accused was arrested and presented before the court, with a case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
