Jurgen Klopp has expressed interest in taking over as Germany’s coach following Julian Nagelsmann’s departure, but emphasized the necessity of discussions with the German Football Association (DFB) and his current employer, Red Bull. Despite initial reservations due to Germany’s recent World Cup performance, Klopp now appears open to the opportunity.
Speaking in an interview with MagentaTV, the 59-year-old Klopp, who has been Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer since January 2025, indicated his readiness to return to coaching after leaving Liverpool two years ago citing fatigue. While acknowledging the imperfect timing, Klopp stated that he feels more energized now and is prepared for the challenge.
Following Germany’s World Cup exit and Nagelsmann’s exit, the DFB reached out to Klopp regarding the vacant coaching position. Klopp, who previously managed Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, is currently under contract with Red Bull until the end of 2029. He mentioned the importance of honoring his existing contract while expressing willingness to engage in discussions with both the DFB and Red Bull.
Klopp highlighted the need for broader changes in German football beyond just the national coach’s role, emphasizing the necessity for fundamental reforms. He stressed that regardless of his potential appointment, significant transformations are essential for the sport’s progress. Klopp underlined that the challenges faced by German football require a comprehensive shift in approach.
