Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai took the oath as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on Friday. The ceremony, held at Bihar Lok Bhavan in Patna, saw Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administering the oath. This appointment followed the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
Governor Syed Ata Hasnain and Chief Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai exchanged greetings after the swearing-in ceremony. The Centre had recently approved Justice Rai’s appointment as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. This decision was made in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, leading to her official elevation to this position.
Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointment of Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai. She succeeds Chief Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, who retired on June 4. Justice Rai, born on July 12, 1964, has a background in Political Science and Law, having served as a judge in the Sikkim High Court.
