New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) Congress MP K.C. Venugopal on Wednesday reiterated that the party’s position on the proposed Delimitation Bill remains unchanged and dismissed reports suggesting any shift in its stance.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Venugopal said: “Union Minister Kiren Rijiju wanted to know the Opposition’s position. There are rumours that he spoke about delimitation and that we suggested we would come back with a response, but there is nothing like that. Our stand is very clear. Whatever position we took during the last Parliament session, we continue to maintain the same stand. There has been no change.”

Reacting to reports that the government may convene a special session of Parliament to introduce the Delimitation Bill, Venugopal said the Congress had no information about such a move.

“We do not know anything about it. What is the purpose of a special session? The person who is supposed to bring the Delimitation Bill is not even coming forward and is hiding in this building. He is not even brave enough to come to Parliament. Who ordered the firing?” he said.

Commenting on the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, the Congress leader said the party would respond after the legislation is introduced.

“Let them bring the Bill, and then we will show them what our attitude is,” he said.

Venugopal also accused Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rijiju of making objectionable remarks against the Opposition in Parliament.

“Today, we went to meet the Speaker. What happened was that Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, under the instructions of the Hon’ble Chair, stood up and made several remarks against the Congress Party, the Samajwadi Party, and the Opposition. During his speech, he made statements against us that were completely unparliamentary and should be expunged from the proceedings. Kiren Rijiju should apologise to the people of this country for making such untrue statements and attempting to cover up the government’s own mistakes,” he said.

Targeting the BJP over the Ram Temple issue, Venugopal said: “The people who looted the Ram temple are now accusing Congress of being ‘Ram virodhi’. People will laugh at such allegations. We are asking for action against those who took money from Ram temple donations, and they have no answer to that.”
