BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao criticized the Telangana Congress government’s decision to install meters on agricultural motors, alleging it aims to end free electricity for farmers. He claimed the move is a step towards privatizing the power sector under the pretext of prepaid meters.
Speaking at a meeting at Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) office, Rao accused Congress of planning to eliminate free electricity by installing meters on agricultural motors and replacing existing household meters with prepaid ones. He mentioned that the State Cabinet approved this decision recently, intending to introduce prepaid meters for all agricultural connections.
Rao urged the public to oppose Congress before the implementation of these meters, emphasizing the need to resist the party’s alleged schemes within the electricity sector. He highlighted previous warnings by BRS about the potential abolition of the free electricity scheme if Congress came to power.
The BRS leader recalled past statements by KCR about the installation of prepaid meters and the potential privatization of the electricity sector. Rao criticized the recent decision by the Congress government to replace existing meters with prepaid ones within three months, suggesting a move towards eliminating the free electricity scheme.
Rao accused Congress of introducing prepaid meters to end free electricity, claiming the Cabinet’s decision aims to transfer state power utilities to corporate entities. He noted public discontent with Congress and expressed confidence that people would respond when given the chance to do so.
