Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K.T. Rama Rao has called on the Congress government in Telangana to act swiftly and ensure the procurement of farmers’ produce in the state. Rao criticized the government for its lack of action despite the arrival of significant quantities of paddy, maize, groundnut, and other crops at market yards.
Rao conducted visits to various procurement centers in the undivided Warangal district to evaluate the on-ground situation. According to a party statement, he inspected centers at Yashwanthapur in Jangaon constituency, Ukkal Society in Geesukonda mandal of Parakala constituency, and the Narsampet market yard. During these visits, Rao engaged with farmers, listening to their concerns in detail.
Farmers expressed distress over the delay in procurement, highlighting that the government’s lack of clarity has led to mounting losses and hardships. They claimed that despite appeals to Markfed officials and the district administration, their pleas have been ignored.
Rao communicated with Markfed Managing Director Srinivas Reddy, questioning the government’s strategy and the agency’s shortcomings. He demanded a clear stance from the government on whether it plans to procure the crops or abandon the farmers. Rao criticized the government for failing to meet minimum procurement levels for maize, alleging that the actual procurement figures are far below the government’s claims.
