Actor-politician Kamal Haasan conveyed his best wishes to C. Joseph Vijay, who has taken office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Haasan praised Vijay in a Tamil post, calling him “his brother” and expressing optimism for the state’s progress under his leadership. Earlier, Haasan had criticized the delay in inviting Vijay to form the government, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles and respecting the people’s mandate.
Several prominent figures from the Tamil film industry, including actors, directors, and others, also extended their congratulations to Vijay on social media. They highlighted Vijay’s remarkable transition from a cinema superstar to the Chief Minister, marking a significant moment in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Vijay assumed office as Chief Minister at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, accompanied by a nine-member council of ministers, after garnering support from 120 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which emerged as the largest party in the recent Assembly elections with 108 seats, surpassed the majority threshold of 118 with backing from various political entities. The swearing-in ceremony of Vijay attracted immense enthusiasm across Tamil Nadu, drawing thousands of supporters to Chennai. The event witnessed tight security measures as national leaders, film personalities, and senior politicians graced the occasion. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s presence underscored the significance of the political coalition that facilitated Vijay’s ascension to power.
Political analysts view Vijay’s appointment as a pivotal moment for Tamil Nadu, marking a departure from the decades-long dominance of the DMK and the AIADMK. With the TVK now at the helm of the government, a new political force has emerged, reshaping the state’s electoral dynamics swiftly and significantly.
