DMK Deputy General Secretary and MP Kanimozhi has urged for a thorough investigation and strict measures against those involved in an alleged sexual exploitation incident in Salem, Tamil Nadu. She expressed shock over reports of a TVK supporter threatening over 50 women and creating obscene videos. Kanimozhi emphasized the need for justice and safety for all affected women, highlighting the importance of a proper inquiry similar to the Pollachi case.
Salem city police recently arrested M. Manikandan, a 40-year-old grocery shop owner, on charges of sexually assaulting a woman, recording the act, and threatening to share the footage online. The arrest followed the circulation of an audio clip where the complainant accused Manikandan, known as a TVK supporter, of sexual assault and intimidation using recorded videos. The woman claimed to have found multiple obscene videos of other women on his phone during her stay with him.
In response to the complaint and viral audio clip, police took action, arresting Manikandan and presenting him in court, leading to his judicial custody. Authorities seized his mobile phone, discovering three obscene video clips, and are now working to identify the women in the footage as part of the ongoing investigation. TVK Salem South District Secretary R.S. Manikandan distanced the party from the accused, clarifying that he had no official role within the TVK’s structure.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the involvement of more victims and fully understand the allegations in the case.
