Padma Bhushan Kapil Dev, President of Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), and Amandeep Johl, CEO of PGTI, recently met with Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. They discussed ways in which golf could enhance Delhi’s aim of becoming a top global city. During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor sought Kapil Dev’s backing for Delhi government’s vision to elevate the city’s global standing.
Kapil Dev expressed his willingness to support any meaningful initiative that contributes to Delhi’s growth, image, and international reputation. He emphasized Delhi’s strong golfing foundation and his readiness to assist in initiatives that elevate the city’s stature and international identity through sports. Kapil Dev also presented a book on Sikh Gurdwaras, a book of personal significance to him, to the Lieutenant Governor.
The discussion highlighted Delhi’s existing infrastructure for realizing this vision, including renowned venues like Delhi Golf Club and Qutab Golf Course. These venues have hosted prestigious golf events, showcasing top global golfers. Additionally, the upcoming golf project in Dwarka, led by the Delhi Development Authority, underscores Delhi’s commitment to golf development. Amandeep Johl noted that Delhi plays a pivotal role in India’s golfing landscape, with its established and upcoming facilities providing a strong foundation for professional golf events. DP World PGTI expressed readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to bolster the golfing ecosystem in the city.
The meeting delved into how golf, tourism, major sports events, hospitality, and international interactions could collectively enhance Delhi’s reputation as a leading global capital with a robust sports dimension. The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) functions as the official governing and sanctioning body for men’s professional golf in India. It is a recognized member of the International Golf Federation and the ‘International Federation of PGA Tours’.
