The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared a protest on July 17 to demand the withdrawal of cases against farmers and the cancellation of the Bidadi Township project. During the upcoming State Legislature Monsoon Session, the BJP and Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) plan to confront the state government on farmer-related issues.
BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra, speaking in Ballari, announced that BJP members would hold a day-long dharna in Bengaluru on July 17. Vijayendra criticized the government for favoring real estate over farmers’ interests and accused Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar of neglecting farmers.
Vijayendra highlighted farmers’ concerns about the Bidadi Township project potentially affecting fertile agricultural land. He urged the government to drop cases against farmers and protest leaders, calling for a halt to what he termed the government’s oppressive behavior towards farmers. The BJP also demanded the appointment of an Agriculture Minister to address farmers’ drought-related challenges.
