The Karnataka BJP expressed confidence that the Congress will back efforts for equal opportunities for women in lawmaking. BJP leader N. Ravikumar highlighted B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of equal rights for all, emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to empowering women through education. Under the ‘Nari Shakti’ initiative, the Prime Minister has called for a special parliamentary session to introduce a Bill ensuring women’s participation in all spheres.
Ravikumar noted the historical lack of tangible action in providing equal rights to women and praised Ambedkar’s contributions in this regard. He highlighted the significance of the Women’s Reservation Bill in promoting women’s involvement in legislative processes. He expressed optimism that the Congress will support the Bill, warning of consequences if dissent arises, and credited PM Modi for championing women’s rights akin to Ambedkar.
The BJP leader criticized the Karnataka government’s handling of Ambedkar Jayanti, citing perceived insincerity in the Chief Minister’s actions. He accused the Chief Minister of tardiness and misleading statements, contrasting the treatment of the event with hypothetical scenarios involving the Congress. Ravikumar also raised concerns about the Congress’ historical stance on minorities, alleging fear-driven support and contrasting it with the BJP’s track record.
