A delegation from the Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Opposition Leader R. Ashoka, has submitted a memorandum to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, urging swift action against those accused of attacking a BJP legislator by Congress workers. The delegation has warned of a protest if the suspects are not apprehended, planning a demonstration near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on July 23.
Ashoka, addressing the media after meeting with Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, criticized the police for failing to safeguard elected officials, alleging that the assault on BJP members occurred while they were under police custody. He blamed the Congress party for orchestrating the attack and directly implicated Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, labeling it a pre-planned incident.
Alleging the presence of weapons like machetes at the Congress office, Ashoka claimed that even more dangerous materials might be stored there. He also mentioned past controversies involving Congress workers, linking individuals who chanted “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans to the party. Describing the Congress office as an “anti-national office,” he emphasized that the BJP had filed a formal complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, urging a thorough investigation without any cover-up attempts.
Questioning the perceived bias in law enforcement, Ashoka highlighted instances where Congress workers protested outside the BJP state office without facing similar repercussions. The BJP has set a deadline of 10 p.m. on Wednesday for the police to arrest the alleged attackers, threatening a protest near Gandhi’s statue if no action is taken.
Ashoka also mentioned plans to discuss future steps with Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra, reiterating that individuals seen wielding weapons during the incident had reportedly come from the Congress office.
It is noteworthy that Karnataka BJP leaders, en route to the KPCC headquarters to protest the Congress’s handling of the NEET issue, were detained by the police in Bengaluru. Congress supporters gathered in large numbers and confronted senior BJP MLA B.P. Harish, leading to a commotion where eggs were allegedly thrown at him. The police intervened to ensure his safety and dispersed the protesters.
