Karnataka BJP has voiced opposition to the proposal of adding Kambala to the Mysuru Dasara festivities, citing concerns about diluting the festival’s unique cultural heritage. The state’s BJP President, B.Y. Vijayendra, emphasized the need to maintain the traditional essence and distinctiveness of the renowned Dasara festival in Mysuru.
Vijayendra stressed the importance of safeguarding the historical significance and cultural traditions associated with Mysuru Dasara, irrespective of political affiliations. He highlighted the festival’s rich legacy and urged the government to uphold its grandeur and heritage without compromise.
The BJP leader underscored the cultural differences between Mysuru Dasara and Kambala, stating that while Kambala is integral to the coastal Dakshina Kannada region’s culture, Mysuru Dasara holds its own unique place in Karnataka’s tradition. He criticized the state government for allegedly making the decision without adequate consultation and urged for the preservation of Karnataka’s cultural heritage.
Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy also opposed the Karnataka government’s move to include Kambala in the Mysuru Dasara celebrations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the festival’s traditional character. The proposal to integrate the traditional coastal sport of Kambala into the Mysuru Dasara festivities has sparked controversy, drawing opposition from various quarters concerned about preserving the unique traditions of the festival.
