Karnataka BJP president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra stated that the Congress is likely to lose the Davanagere South and Bagalkot seats. He accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of being worried about potential defeat. Vijayendra, addressing a gathering in Davanagere South, expressed confidence in the BJP’s chances in both constituencies.
He mentioned a shift of support towards the BJP from the backward classes and emphasized the determination of people from all sections to elect Srinivas Daskariappa. Vijayendra praised the efforts of state Backward Classes Morcha president Raghu Koutilya and party office-bearers in the campaign.
Vijayendra criticized the Congress, alleging corruption and misuse of funds from the Valmiki Development Corporation. He claimed that money was being distributed to voters in Davanagere South. The BJP leader highlighted the slogan “Shamanur’s cash, vote for BJP” and asserted that voters cannot be influenced by corrupt practices.
Vijayendra also pointed out disparities in allocations to backward classes corporations between the current government and the tenure of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. He urged voters to back BJP candidate Srinivasadas Kariyappa, accusing the Congress of treating backward classes as a mere vote bank.
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai challenged the state government to a debate on the contributions of BJP and non-Congress governments to the irrigation sector. Bommai questioned the introduction of A and B irrigation schemes, emphasizing the completion of projects under previous administrations. He highlighted irrigation initiatives undertaken in various constituencies and called for a discussion on irrigation development contributions.
