Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has set a target to make the state drug-free by 2028. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts from citizens, students, and youth to combat the narcotics issue. Speaking at an event organized by the Karnataka Police, he urged the public to join hands with the government in eradicating drug abuse.
Shivakumar stressed the message of “Quit drugs, choose happiness” and encouraged young individuals to embrace positive values while resisting the temptation of narcotics. He highlighted the need for parents to address drug addiction in their children openly and cooperate with authorities to identify sources of drugs. The Chief Minister also announced rewards for those providing credible information on drug consumption and trafficking.
The government’s focus on enforcing anti-drug measures was underscored by Shivakumar, noting the destruction of narcotic substances worth Rs 89 crore in the past three years. He commended the efforts of law enforcement personnel in dismantling drug networks and emphasized the collective responsibility of every citizen in achieving a drug-free Karnataka.
