Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that beneficiaries of the Gruha Laxmi Rs 2,000 monthly allowance scheme must reapply for verification. Over Rs 100 crore had been withdrawn in the names of deceased beneficiaries, as per government reports. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to ensure benefits reach eligible recipients and assured that the scheme will continue.
Shivakumar disclosed that all students will be granted free bus passes following a recent government directive. He instructed district ministers, Deputy Commissioners, and Booth Level Officers to raise awareness about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process to protect citizens’ voting rights. The Chief Minister urged voters to submit enumeration forms and advised migrant workers to provide necessary documents to maintain their electoral registration.
In response to queries regarding opposition to the Bidadi Township project, Shivakumar mentioned that former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is free to pursue legal recourse. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s positive feedback on the township initiative, acknowledging its potential to alleviate pressure on Bengaluru. The Chief Minister also discussed his participation in the NITI Aayog meeting, where he raised Karnataka’s concerns and received a favorable response from the Prime Minister.
Shivakumar addressed criticisms about revising welfare schemes, noting that those who previously opposed Karnataka’s guarantee programs are now replicating them in other states. He emphasized the importance of combating corruption, protecting voting rights, enhancing rural education, and tackling illicit financial activities, rowdyism, and drug networks. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure students return to school promptly and expedite the distribution of uniforms, shoes, and textbooks.
Precautionary measures are being planned due to a potential rainfall deficit and the anticipated impact of El Nino. Efforts are underway to secure adequate seeds and fertilizers, implement drought-mitigation strategies, and arrange for cattle fodder supply. The state is currently experiencing a rainfall shortfall of approximately 30%. District administrations and police have been tasked with intensifying actions against illegal financial schemes and drug trafficking, including ganja and other narcotics.
