Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar affirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring full ownership rights for property owners and resolving long-standing issues faced by apartment residents in Bengaluru. Speaking at an event with apartment association representatives regarding the proposed Karnataka Apartment (Ownership and Maintenance) Bill, 2026, Shivakumar emphasized the goal of making Bengaluru a central hub in India and ensuring citizen participation in governance. He encouraged public feedback on the bill, allowing suggestions and objections to be submitted until August 6 to Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
The Chief Minister highlighted the bill’s aim to protect property buyers’ interests, welcoming constructive input within legal boundaries. Recognizing the challenges property owners encounter, Shivakumar stressed the importance of property rights and aligning government actions with citizens’ voices. He mentioned the positive response to the proposed “Bhu Guarantee,” aimed at securing property owners’ rights, and acknowledged the significance of owning a home for families.
Shivakumar also discussed the government’s efforts in digitizing land and property records, leading to significant progress in issuing e-Khatas for properties in Bengaluru. He outlined initiatives to address civic issues in apartment complexes, such as sewage treatment plants and water supply enhancements, including groundwater recharge projects and the Cauvery Phase V initiative. The Chief Minister further expressed the government’s commitment to decentralization for improved governance and business operations in Bengaluru.
