A review meeting regarding the progress of Karnataka government’s guarantee schemes took place in Bengaluru under Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s leadership. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of preventing misuse of schemes while ensuring genuine beneficiaries receive uninterrupted assistance. Stringent measures were discussed to safeguard against fraud in various guarantee schemes, with a focus on preventing benefits to ineligible recipients.

Shivakumar highlighted instances where beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme faced challenges due to bank loan adjustments and account changes. Steps were directed to avoid inconveniencing such beneficiaries during verification. Concerns were raised about the misuse of benefits, including payments to deceased beneficiaries and unauthorized transactions through Airtel Payments Bank accounts. The meeting also addressed the need to restrict benefits to accounts within Karnataka and suggested encouraging financially stable beneficiaries to surrender benefits for more deserving recipients.

Discussions covered the impact of Central government policies on financial burdens faced by families, along with technical challenges in the Gruha Lakshmi scheme implementation. The review meeting analyzed issues highlighted in the Comptroller and Auditor General report, emphasizing the importance of verification mechanisms to ensure funds reach eligible beneficiaries. Officials were tasked with strengthening processes to prevent misuse of welfare schemes and enhance accountability.
