Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the state government’s commitment to safeguarding Kannadigas in Middle Eastern countries amidst the Israel-Iran conflict. He mentioned that Kannadigas in nations like the UAE and Qatar are under close observation, with necessary precautions being implemented for their protection. Discussions with the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi have led to directives for ensuring the well-being of Kannadigas in the region.
Siddaramaiah highlighted the suspension of flight services in various Middle Eastern countries due to the conflict, resulting in many individuals being stranded without the ability to return to India. He advised those affected to relocate to safer areas and adhere strictly to guidance from local authorities and Indian missions. The Chief Minister also announced the launch of a dedicated helpline to aid Kannadigas and their families.
Former minister B. Nagendra informed the Chief Minister about 32 individuals from Ballari currently stuck in Dubai. Siddaramaiah assured that the government is taking necessary actions to ensure their safety and provide assistance. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with his Iranian and Israeli counterparts, expressing India’s concerns over the escalating situation in West Asia following reported strikes and retaliatory actions.
The recent tensions have led to explosions in Tehran and other places, with Iran launching missiles towards Israel and US bases in the Gulf region. Israel labeled the strikes as pre-emptive, while the US referred to the operation as “Operation Epic Fury,” targeting Iranian military and leadership sites. This prompted retaliatory missile launches on US-affiliated facilities in multiple countries.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the operations and encouraged Iranians to seek regime change, while Iranian officials promised a robust response. The escalating situation has raised fears of a broader regional conflict, with international humanitarian organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, cautioning about a potentially dangerous chain reaction.
